1110 Ramona Drive Please note: we will have an all-new video feature of our home, including home video from the late 1950's, from the family that lived here then! We're working on it, so check back soon! Indian Hills has always been our favorite neighborhood and we were thrilled to finally buy a home here in 2006.
The house was built in 1950 and has somewhere close to 2,000 square feet (it depends on who you ask). It was built by Fred Money. The architect, Lloyd Franklin, still resides in Enid today! We bought it from Jim and Rhonda Tappan, who literally saved this house and brought it back to life through years of hard work and dedication. When they bought it, it had fallen into such disrepair the neighbors had signed a petition to have it torn down. The roof had leaked for years as it sat empty being used for storage. They tried many banks, but no one would lend money on a house that was uninhabitable. Finally, Sharon Miller at Northwest Bank saw their vision and made the loan. A lot of love has gone into this house over the last 13 years and we're so thankful to the Tappans for doing so. If it weren't for Jim, Rhonda and their banker, Sharon, this would probably be a vacant lot. When you walk in, there is an open contemporary staircase in the middle of the house with a spacious landing at the top. The Tappans have a newspaper clip about a wedding that took place here. The bride came down the stairs on a white carpet and was married in front of the fireplace. The ceiling upstairs matches the slight pitch of the roof, which adds even more architectural interest. We have decorated with a combination of retro and craftsman styles. I painted the art for the house, made an ultra-modern Christmas wreath for our front door and even made our Christmas tree this year. It has been called many names like the "Beach House" the "Frank Lloyd Wright House" and even the "Chicken Coop House." I'm sure there were more. It was designed by the same architect as the contemporary house on Wynona, sometimes called the "California House." We were not expecting to buy a house, but being REALTORS® we noticed it was listed and we previewed it, then it was ours less than 3 weeks later. This house doesn't fit everyone's style, but it is so US and we LOVE it! |
